Dump Stereotypes About Government

Attorney General Cuomo opened his campaign for Governor by attacking state government. Frankly I’m tired of all these attacks coupled with the systematic failure to acknowledge all the good work being done by state government.

Greece and the Multiplier

Americans cheered for the Greeks as they fought for and won their independence in 1830. For most of the intervening years we’ve had issues nearer home to think about.

Homeless Veteran

As I left a shopping plaza a few days ago I spotted a woman, probably in her 30s, with a sign that read “Homeless veteran.” I have not been able to get her out of my mind. It’s not the paltry dollar or two that she wanted. It’s that we as a society take so little responsibility for the tragedies in our midst.

Republican Word Doctors

Years ago we stopped in at a place that wanted to sell us a piece of land. The person we were talking to asked what we would enjoy and then asked us to imagine it was all there. We had to imagine it because he wanted to sell us our own dreams. Nothing he asked us to imagine was actually there or in the contract he wanted us to sign. Our children were young then and urged us to do it daddy and mommy.

I had the same sense of people trying to sell us our own dreams as I read The Word Doctors “Language of Financial Reform” prepared by Dr. Frank Luntz for Republicans.
